3 Security Tips for Christmas Homes
As much as the entire team here at National Electronic Security looks forward to Santa’s arrival, having seen a lot of Christmases since we started back in 1989, we also turn our attention to security during this period and want to remind you of some important security tips.
Already, many families will be planning their New Year getaway while a decent number of businesses will shutdown over the festive period. That said, it’s no surprise that from now until the end of December, we tend to be under the pump. After all, it’s only natural for families to want to secure their homes and for business owners to look into getting their security systems customised to suit their needs so that they can enjoy a well deserved rest.
To give you a head start, our team has put together 3 handy tips so that you can get back to enjoying the fun that comes with Christmas. Regardless of whether you’re interested in learning more about security cameras or something else, you’re sure to find at least one useful tip below.
Tip #1 – Make sure your business security system is tailored to your needs
You pour a lot of hard word, sweat and tears into your business and regardless of its size or the industry you’re competing in, protecting it against crime and other threats is a priority. When it comes to security for business, a one size fits all solution just doesn’t exist. It’s imperative that you understand your needs and this can only be done by being informed. While high-resolution Mobotix cameras or alarm sensors to monitored back to base alarm systems may be great for one business, they may not be ideal for another. Speak to someone in the know about what your security needs are.
Tip #2 – Know what thieves look for in relation to home residences
We encounter so many home owners who are surprised when we tell them that often, home burglaries are not premeditated. Opportunistic criminals look for certain things when fishing for their next target. Common examples include:
- Numerous entry points, all at varied security levels.
- Homes that are vacant for large periods at a time throughout the day.
- Residences where gardens and fences provide an easy cover while a burglar breaks in.
When you head off on your Christmas or New Year trip this year, the last thing you want to be worrying about is your home security. Plan ahead and invest in a high quality home security system that covers all possible bases now.
Tip #3 – On the NBN? Ask your alarm provider if your alarm is NBN ready.
So, you’ve probably heard about a lot of issues related to the Government’s National Broadband Network (NBN). One that is a lot less publicised but incredibly important to be aware of is the problem that many alarm systems encounter because of its implementation. If you’re connected to the NBN in your area, you no longer have access to a fixed line telephone as the existing phone line and internet network infrastructure have been upgraded.
Most older alarms are designed to use a phone line dial that goes to a monitoring centre that is alerted when a sensor is triggered. Each of these calls also result in a charge being added to your phone bill. We can’t overstate how important it is to check that your current alarm is NBN ready.
If it isn’t or you’re interested in saving money, ask us about how a Permaconn unit is likely to be the perfect solution for you. At a cost of $300 for installation and then $3 per week ongoing, it’s far more cost effective in the longer-term even if your current alarm is NBN ready. A Permaconn unit eliminates phone call charges each time a monitoring centre is alerted when your alarm sensor is triggered. Ultimately, nothing is more paramount than ensuring that your family home and/or business is secure so make sure you ask the question!
